What is this subject about?

First take a look at the main parts of the subject (it is a great presentation done by Javier Rellán, thanks!):

In this map, you will learn how all the contents in the subject are related. Follow the arrows to get at least 5 sentences about the process of technology!

Take into account how your work will be evaluated in this subject and what materials you need: Evaluation and materials

GRAPHICAL EXPRESSION

Here you have several exercises about the views of some objects.
Views 1 | Views 2 | Views 3 | Views 4 | Views 5

Homework: the exercises in the 4 previous files are mandatory and they must be finished before 9/10/2011. You can print the file and do the exercise in that page or draw the solutions directly in your notebook.

In this presentation you will learn to get and draw all the pieces forming an object:

INTERNET

Homework: create an email account and send an email to your teacher (algunastecnocosas@gmail.com) with your full name and class before 9/10/2011. If you need help you can follow the instructions in the following practices (choose the one you prefer):
Email in Yahoo | Email in Hotmail | Email in Gmail

MATERIALS, WOOD AND METALS

First we will discover in this presentation why we use different materials to make different objects. It is something very important, because you will need to choose the materials for your project (in the workshop) very soon.

Activity: What materials would you use to make a chair, a pan, a book, a wire and a jacket? Why? Here you have the solutions

COMPUTERS/Word processors

Here you have the first 3 practices that we are doing in computers:P 1.1 - Word processor - Fonts and titles | P1.2 - Word processor - Tables, lists and pictures | P1.3 - Word processor - Tools in the workshop

After doing the 3 practices, we will review the vocabulary with a crossword puzzle:Crossword Puzzle - Vocabulary related to Word processors

COMPUTERS/Hardware

In this presentation you will find the basic vocabulary about the hardware in a computer (thank you Alison!!!!):

And this is the word search you must do as homework (thank you again, Alison!!): Computer Word Search

PROJECTS IN THE WORKSHOP

Before you start your project, you need to know:

Some documents you will need for your project:

1st project: desk orginizer / photo frame

You need to choose between one of these objects.

Homework: choose between a desk organizer and a photo frame, do a reasearch about the object you chose and do a design for your object (freehand drawing and views of the object).

STRUCTURES

Watch the video about the Tacoma Bridge and after that, study the information an do the activities contained in the following presentation about what a structure is and what characteristics it should have. Don't forget to do the final activity as homework.

If you don't understand anything in the video, you can read the complete transcription in this document (thank you, Cassandra): Tacoma bridge - Transcription of the video.doc

The second part in this unit is about the types of structures. Watch the following presentation and do the final activity as homework.

And if you want to get some fun with structures, you can try to demolish some of them with this game. Let's see who is able to reach the final level!

MECHANISMS

In this new unit we will study the most important mechanisms one by one. Let's start with the first one:
1) The PulleyWatch the video and do the activities in this WORKSHEET: Simple machines - The pulley - Activities

2) The leverNow watch the video and do the activities in this new WORKSHEET: Simple machines - The lever - Activities

You will need this new video for questions in section D in the worksheet:

3) The simple machinesThe simple machines includes the pulley and the lever. In this presentation you have a complete description of the most important simple machines (thanks to Elisa Moreno, IES Ramiro de Maeztu, for the presentation in which it is based this one):

4) Most important types of mechanisms

  • In this presentation (adapted from one made by Elisa Moreno in IES Ramiro de Maeztu), you can study the most important types of mechanisms. Be sure to click in the links that you can find in the presentation, so you can watch some videos of the mechanisms. Write down the most important information in this worksheet: Notes for mechanisms

ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS

We start this very important unit with the BASICS OF ELECTRICITY AND ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS:

And now listen and correct it! Thank you, Cassandra!!
