1) General documents for projects

The workshop is a special classroom, with many materials, tools and machines. That is why it is very important to follow some special rules that complement the ones we have in the rest of the school. Here you have them:

3) Tools in the workshop

These are the picture and list of all the tools we usually use in the workshop. Make sure you know the name of each of them, both in English and Spanish.

4) Budget

We will do the budget of the project using a spreadsheet program (Google Docs, OpenOffice Calc, Microsoft Office Excel).
You and your group have to do two different budgets in two different documents: the budget of all the materials used and the budget of all the tools used.
You will get all the materials and prices in this website: Technology Supplies
It is necessary to change prices to get them in euros instead of pounds. You have to put the right names of tools and materials (the one you will get in the previous link).






GRAPHICAL EXPRESION

1) Views of an object

Real life objects have three dimensions (height, width and depth), but when we draw them we can use only two (in the whiteboard, in our notebook). One way to solve it is to draw the object several times from different point of views, taking into account only two dimensions each time. That way we get the different views of the object: front, top and side (left or right) views.
Make sure you can do the following exercises:
  • The three main views of a tgable, a chair, a mobile phone and a piece of furniture at your home (front, top and left side views).
  • Views of the following objects: Views 1 | Views 2 | Views 3 | Views 4 | Views 5

2) Perspectives

Technicians use graphical expression as a way to communicate ideas, as we do when we start a new project in the workshop: we draw very accurately the object we want to make. That is why we are learning how to draw objects using cavalier and isometric perspectives.
At the end of this unit you will have to have in your notebook at least the drawing of the following objects (and of every other object that your teacher has asked you):
  • The views of a chair and of any piece of furniture at your home (front, top and left side views)
  • Cavalier and isometric perspective of a cube, a chair, a cylinder and any piece of furniture at your home.
  • Isometric of the objects whose views are shown in the following files: isometrica 1 | isometrica 2 | isometrica 3

ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS

How to control an electrical motor

We can see in this picture the circuit needed to change the direction in which the motor rotates (the one needed for your projects), how to create a DPDT switch in the workshop and how to connect it to assemble the circuit (in both cases, when you buy the DPDT switch and when you make it in the workshop).

Simulation of circuits with Crocodile Clips

  1. Save the document Practices with Crocodile Clips in your computer (and print it at home!!).
  2. Simulate the circuits in the previous document and answer the questions in your notebook/photocopies ((if you are using your notebook, you have to write down the question too).
  3. If you have to do some practices at home, you can use the program Yenka, instead of Crocodile Clips (you can download Yenka from this website)
